REGIMIENTO DE INFANTERÍA DE LÍNEA DEL REY 1808

En 1808 España contaba con 45 regimientos de infantería de línea, siendo 35 de ellos españoles y 10 de tropas extranjeras (6 suizos, 3 irlandeses y 1 italiano). Cada regimiento constaba de tres batallones con una fuerza de 2256 hombres en tiempos de guerra.

In 1808 the spanish army had 45 line infantry regiments, 35 of them were Spanish and 10 of foreign troops (6 Swiss, 3 Irish and 1 Italian). Each regiment consisted of three battalions with a force of 2256 men in times of war.

Este regimiento fue creado por orden del Rey Felipe IV en el año 1634 como Coronelía de la Guarda del Rey. Mantiene el color distintivo por el que se le conoció durante buena parte del s. XVII como Tercio de morados viejos.

Ocupa el primer puesto en el orden de la infantería española.

This regiment was raised by order of the King Felipe IV in 1634 as Coronelía of the King's Guard. Maintains the distinctive facing color by which it was known for much of the XVII century as “Old Purples”.

It occupies the first place in the order of the Spanish infantry.

Cada regimiento tenia tres banderas, una por batallón. La bandera coronela se mantenía en el primer batallón y los otros dos llevaban banderas sencillas.

La bandera coronela tenia el escudo de armas reales en el centro con el escudo del regimiento en cada una de las cuatro esquinas. Las banderas sencillas mostraban la cruz de Borgoña rematadas en las esquinas con el escudo del regimiento 

Each regiment has three flags, one per battalion. The Colonel’s Colour remained in the first battalion and the other two carried Regimental colours.

The Colonel’s Colour had the royal coat of arms placed in the center with the regiment’s insignia in each of the four corners. The simple flags showed the red Burgundy cross topped at the corners with the regiment’s insignia.
